The importance of being innovative as a region will increase over time. Competition in a global economy will continue to spark entrepreneurial activity within the region. Florida's Research Coast recognizes these challenges and opportunities and is supportive to drive strong economic development and the entrepreneurial spirit. We work to strengthen our region's business capacity and assist in creating new jobs by focusing on established small to medium size enterprises.
Economic Gardening is another term for the development of local, high-growth small & medium businesses (SMBs). The strategy focuses on the development of a regional economy by using methods and tools that promote growth of the economy from within. While Economic Gardening concentrates on growing local businesses it is also outward-looking; encouraging businesses to seek new markets, whether local, national or international.
Economic Gardening aims to identify emerging entrepreneurs in small and medium businesses on the Research Coast. These are business-minded people with a strong desire and aptitude to grow their businesses and reach the next level. It provides these budding entrepreneurs with a package of professional business assistance programs that would normally be too costly for most small businesses. The objective of Florida's Research Coast economic gardening strategy is to help local entrepreneurs successfully fast-track the sustainable expansion of their businesses.
