Creating economic diversity and prosperity for the residents of Florida's Research Coast are essential in providing a sustainable region. These elements are directly linked to economic development. An economically diverse and prosperous community is characterized by year-round jobs, high-skill, high-wages, creating tax revenues, highly trained employees, retaining local talent, strong work ethic and improvement in the quality of life for the region.
Best Practices: Florida's Research Coast is a partnership initiative of the Indian River Chamber of Commerce, Business Development Board of Martin County, Okeechobee Main Street, Economic Council of St. Lucie County and Workforce Solutions. The partners work collaboratively rather than competitively in the four county region. The overall goal is to expand the region's industry base and facilitate high-wage job creation for local residents while maintaining a high quality of life. The partnership is currently working together on an economic gardening project to help budding entrepreneurs successfully grow and sustain their businesses.
